Two UEFA Conference League first round qualifiers have come under investigation by the relevant authorities due to suspected match-fixing and suspicious betting activity.
In the first match, Alashkert from Armenia won a confident victory with a score of 6:1 over Montenegrin Arsenal Tivat, 7:2 as a result of both matches.
In the second match, the victory of the Latvian RFS with a score of 4:1 over the GP from North Macedonia.
Both of these matches were played on the same day, 20 July, and were suspected due to unusual betting activity.
After identifying suspicious signals, RFS and Alashkert were temporarily disqualified from the tournament.
In response to the allegations, Latvian RFS said: «Our club always sets only the highest standards on the pitch and also outside the pitch.
«Integrity principles are the essence of football. We always prove everything on the field.
«The two matches against Makedonija, which we won and went to the next round, were no exception from our side. This is all we can comment.»
In a report for the second quarter of 2023, IBIA indicated that out of 50 registered suspicious alerts, 34 were in Europe.
