Deutsche Sportwettenverband (DSWV) has confirmed the appointment of Luise Evers as the new Spokesperson and Press Officer for the German Sports Betting Trade Association.
The appointment will see Evers assume full responsibilities for DSWV’s press relations as well as both internal and external communication channels.
Evers holds extensive experience in corporate communications, having formerly served as a Communications Manager for the Cyber Innovation Hub of the Bundeswehr – the German Armed Forces.
Educated at the University of Tel Aviv and SRH Berlin, Evers has previously worked as a journalist for the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur and Axel Springer, the biggest media and publishing group for DACH markets.
The appointment was welcomed by DSWV Chief Executive Luka Andric, who commented: “We are delighted to welcome Luise as a new face to the DSWV team. In addition to her international education, she brings diverse expertise from the fields of journalism and politics.”
DSWV continues to challenge the market restrictions imposed by the laws of Germany’s Fourth Interstate Gambling Regime (GlüNeuRStv).
Market discrepancies were highlighted in DSWV’s 2022 report on German sports betting, as the agency noted that wagering had declined by 13% year-on-year from €9.2bn to €8.4bn, despite the year featuring the marquee betting event of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Of concern to Bundestag stakeholders, accumulated sports betting tax revenues of €430m were 7.9% below 2021’s total of €470m.
DSWV has demanded for “instant corrections” to be applied to the GlüNeuRStv regime, as currently Germany’s 30 licensed sportsbook operators compete against the illegal offers provided by over 1,000 operators actively targeting German consumers.
The Federal Gambling Authority Gluecksspiel (GGL) has reiterated that it will not review market rules in the first year of its authority as German gambling’s supervisory body, choosing to focus on the development of new player protections and enforcements against unlicensed operators.
