Artificial Intelligence in Sports: FIBA and Genius Sports Team Up to Develop New Technologies in Basketball Until 2035

FIBA, the world basketball organization, has extended its long-term partnership with Genius Sports Limited until 2035 to provide leagues and national federations with innovative computer recognition technology and artificial intelligence capabilities from 2025.

This cutting-edge technology transforms the entire data and video landscape of global basketball, offering a single solution to automate statistics collection and real-time video production with advanced player tracking. Genius Sports’ optical system has the ability to instantly analyze game situations and predict results in real time, making streaming data and video a valuable source of information about what is happening on the playing field.

For the first time, an automated player tracking system powered by artificial intelligence will be available to leagues and national federations. The technology will also give users access to advanced coaching and analytics tools, automated refereeing and broadcast enhancement capabilities.

Together since 2004, Genius Sports and FIBA ​​have provided FIBA ​​LiveStats and FIBA ​​Organizer to more than 200 leagues and national federations around the world, facilitating the collection of official statistics and supporting digital transformation in the world of basketball. To date, FIBA ​​LiveStats contains complete outcome data for over a million basketball matches, and both products remain available to the FIBA Family.

Under the new agreement, Genius Sports has become FIBA’s official data and video production partner, as well as the governing body’s key innovation and technology services partner until 2025.
