Anti-Gaming: Türkiye Takes Strong Action Against Twitch & Kick

Twitch and Kick were banned in Turkey by the National Lottery Administration due to concerns about gambling.

Both Twitch and its competitor Kick have come under fire several times in the past due to concerns surrounding broadcast gambling on their platforms.

In 2022, Twitch famously made changes to its gambling policies after coming under fire from top broadcasters such as Pokimane when one of the streamers, Sliker, admitted to scamming his fans and fellow streamers hundreds of thousands of dollars to fuel his gambling addiction.

Kick has also received significant support from the co-founders of Stake.com, a renowned online gambling platform.

On February 21, news broke that Türkiye had blocked access to Kick. According to journalist Ibrahim Haskologlu, Turkish authorities “stated that Kick’s entry into Turkey was to attract Turkish youth to roulette.”

Two days later, Turkey reportedly did the same to Twitch, with Haskologlu saying the site was blocked by a decision of the General Directorate of the National Lottery Administration.

The journalist also stated that access to the site would be cut off in “24 hours,” claiming that the BTK — the Information and Communication Technologies Authority in Turkey — began investigating Twitch after broadcasters on Kick claimed similar content was being streamed on the Amazon-owned platform.
