SBC CIS Weekly Digest: June, 5—12

SBC CIS Editorial Team is happy to present a quick recap of the gambling industry events, news, regulations and partnerships that happened last week. 

Sports Betting Community (SBC) announced its first summit in Tbilisi — a conference and exhibition, with a focus on Georgia and adjacent regions such as the Black Sea region, Central Asia and the Balkans. The event, organised in cooperation with SMH, Georgian iGaming and sports management organisation, aims to explore the opportunities that these regions offer. SBC Summit Tbilisi is scheduled for October 23-24, 2023 at the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace Hotel.

Moving on from the Black Sea region to North America — in the wake of the Canadian Gaming Summit, Ted Doering and Scott Morash sat down for an interview with SBC Americas to discuss a recent research done by IPSOS that highlighted Ontario’s crowded betting and casino market as such that must be treated with great attention towards building a strong advertising strategy to achieve effectiveness.

Ukrainians lent their support to Parimatch as a 25,000-strong petition was delivered to President Zelenskyy. It is asking the President to order a thorough investigation into the arbitrary sanctions imposed on the company. The petition garnered the required 25,000 signatures 14 days ahead of the deadline, as the Ukrainian public rallied behind the Company in its fight to uphold the rule of law in Ukraine and unblock its popular services in the country.

Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) called on social media to take new measures and strengthen collaboration to reduce the visibility of gambling advertising to young people and at-risk groups on social media platforms. In a letter to the UK Minister of Culture, Lucy Fraser, BGC’s CEO Michael Dugher demanded to increase the pressure on social media platforms to further engage with the industry and help limit the negative impact of gambling on young people and people at risk of suffering from the gambling addiction. 

UFC Events open up great opportunities for sports betting operators. Chris Bellitti, UFC Vice President of Corporate Communications, revealed some information  about the growth and popularity of UFC and MMA betting. Bellitti said: «UFC events in general – and particularly main card events – take place later in the evening, which is an opportune time for betting operators, when other core sports have typically ended. Additionally, UFC’s roster of fighters from more than 75 countries helps generate a truly engaged global audience who are interested in betting on local stars.»

Real Madrid topped the Forbes’ latest list of the world’s most valuable football teams with a valuation of US$6.07 billion. It is the seventh time that Real Madrid comes up on top of the annual Forbes list, with the club’s valuation of US$5.1 billion last year. However, their valuation is still significantly lower than that of the National Football League (NFL) Dallas Cowboys, which Forbes recently valued at US$8 billion.

LaLiga entered into a deal with Digital Virgo Group to make their LaLiga Xtra mobile app available through licensees in 18 countries. Offering LaLiga content, with live data, quizzes and fantasy games, the LaLiga Xtra mobile app is already available in countries in South America, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, including France, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina and Morocco, among others. 

EveryMatrix received a B2B licence to supply its leading online gaming software and services to the growing Swedish market. With the new five-year licence, EveryMatrix will be able to provide its modular, API-based, world-class iGaming solutions, content and services within a growing jurisdiction that has begun regulating online gaming and betting since January 2019. In 2022, the Swedish online GGR revenue market is estimated to be approximately SEK 17.1 billion (€1.5 billion).

1xBet sports betting brand entered into a partnership agreement with the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) to become the official sponsor of the historic CAFA Men’s Nations Cup.
